TVEMS Chief - Full Time

TVEMS Chief

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Chief of Department under the direction of the Thompson Valley Health Services District Board. The Chief performs a wide range of difficult to complex administrative activities related to finance and accounting, marketing and promotion of services, staffing and personnel operations, and discretionary activities that serve to support an effective business operation of Thompson Valley Emergency Medical Services (TVEMS). This position uses considerable independent judgement in decisions that influence overall operations; assists the company officers and advises the board of directors in planning, policy, and operational and administrative matters in a cost-effective manner. These job responsibilities should not be considered as the exclusive standard of the position.  The role may include other responsibilities and duties as assigned or otherwise as needed to meet TVEMS needs.

Salary range - $160,000 - $200,000

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS

Education/Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that provides the required skill and knowledge for successful performance of duties as EMS Chief. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • Possession of an advanced degree (Bachelors minimum) from an accredited college or university with major course work in EMS, public health, management, or closely related field; and
  • Eight to ten (8-10) years’ experience performing management and supervisory duties with extensive pre-hospital, paramedic advanced life support experience.
  • Current certification as a paramedic or previous certification within job history.

Knowledge:

Principles and practices of business administration including personnel practices and employment laws; operations of varied EMS systems and interdepartmental communication, program budgeting, general accounting, and fiscal management practices both in general and related to public entities, including public financing, mill levies, and government budgeting/appropriations; office procedures and business operating systems; the appropriate methods and means of dealing with human behavior situations in a variety of business circumstances.

Skill:

Communicating effectively, verbally and in writing, with a wide range of audiences and settings; persuasion and negotiation of conflicts and problems; assessing operational program, staffing, and fiscal forms, and data; analyzing complex written documents and government regulations; evaluating fiscal and financial reports, forms and data; identifying and resolving administrative problems; working long and/or irregular hours; delegating responsibility and achieving results through subordinates; maintaining order in an environment of changing priorities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide leadership and set the example for performance and conduct.
  • Oversee and assure the provision of prehospital health and wellness services within the TVHSD.
  • Collaborates with company officers in the development and administration of financial objectives, budgeting and monthly administrative activity.
  • Communicate with the Thompson Valley Health Services District (TVHSD) Board concerning equipment, budgetary needs and monthly operations activity.
  • Oversees personnel actions such as hiring, promotion, transfer, discharge, and disciplinary action and performance evaluations.
  • Participate in problem solving, seeking out opportunities for improvement and working to find innovative solutions.
  • Assure adequate staff development and expertise to guarantee continuity of company operation during this position absence.
  • Monitor and enforce all standard operating procedures and medical protocols.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of budgeting, EMS reimbursement and contract negotiation.
  • Monitor procedures and practices to maintain compliance with professional standards.
  • Resolve employee work problems, initiates plans to motivate staff and achieve work goals.
  • Assure that staff is properly trained to perform their jobs, properly oriented to the work environment and have the necessary equipment, supplies and vehicles to perform their work.
  • Monitor dispatch procedures and communications with police, fire and other ancillary agencies.
  • Oversee the establishment and provision of an efficient, prompt, up-to-date mass casualty response team, including protocol, equipment and personnel.
  • Establish and maintain adequate mutual aid agreements with ambulance services bordering the district and ancillary emergency services within the district.
  • Act as a liaison between staff, nursing management, emergency departments, physicians, dispatch, hospital departments and EMS district by:
  • Communicating with staff through individual conferences and staff meetings
  • Representing the TVHSD at EMS meetings and other functions.
  • Maintain frequent contact with physicians, patients, families and patient-care services. Externally this position is in contact with community agencies such as fire, police, dispatch, public and area emergency departments who participate in patient-care activities.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and maintains personnel files of assigned personnel.
  • Interact in a professional manner with community agencies such as fire, police, dispatch, emergency departments as well as TVEMS staff, physicians, patients and families.
  • Maintain professional competence and knowledge of applicable laws and regulations of TVEMS.
  • Participate in measuring, monitoring, evaluating and communicating quality findings.
  • Negotiate, sign and authorize all contracts with purveyors and third parties in furtherance of the District’s budget. Keep the Board advised of such ongoing negotiations for contracts which fall outside the scope of budgeted items.
  • Prepare for and attend District Board meetings.
  • Oversees District dispatch center and District CARES program.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Material and Equipment Involved:

Computers, telephones, copiers, postage machines and other office equipment. 

Ambulances and various in sundry equipment required in the operation of EMS.

Hazardous Exposure Category:

Category III.- Involves no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, although situations can be hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids.

Lifting Requirements:

Level 2.  Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.  Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work.

Dispatcher - Full or Part Time

Dispatcher

Thompson Valley Emergency Medical Services is expanding our non-emergency communications call center and is seeking qualified individuals to fill full and part-time dispatcher positions. 

The communications dispatcher position is responsible for: 

  • Answering and prioritizing non-emergency calls 
  • Dispatching appropriate personnel and equipment while maintaining accurate documentation using multiple software programs and dispatching systems. 
  • Providing excellent customer service 

Qualifying education: High school diploma or GED 

Work experience should include: Customer service, call-taking, multi-tasking, general computer skills, basic knowledge of Microsoft Office products 

Position Requirements: Must be able to work 12-hour shifts, to include nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime. 

The full-time work rotation is currently set with four days off after each rotation of four 12-hour shifts. Part-time will have minimum monthly availability requirements. 

The position of full-time communications dispatcher starting annual salary is: $45,045

Paramedic – Full Time

Paramedic

Thompson Valley EMS is a 3rd service EMS agency operated by an Independent Health Services District. We are the only Prehospital ALS Providers within our district and maintain a positive and collaborative relationship with partnering BLS Fire-Response and Law Enforcement agencies. Our standards of care are patient focused and guided by ethics, compassion, and evidence-based guidelines. Protocols are developed for and by TVEMS employees to remain relevant and progressive, including Rapid Sequence Intubation. TVEMS Paramedics function as top-tier clinicians, patient advocates, problem solvers, team leaders, educators, and mentors. 

Additionally: 

  • 24-hour shifts on a modified Kelly schedule with a nine-day rotation (of three shifts with a day off in-between, followed by four days off). 
  • Periodic paid on-call assignments (with requirement to respond within 1 hour of call-in) 
  • Salary range - $62,370 - $94,000 (consideration given to external experience, education, and qualifications when determining starting rate

  • AHA ACLS, and AHA BLS certifications

Single Resource Paramedic Captain - Full Time

Single Resource Paramedic Captain

 A Single Resource Captain,  under the supervision of the Battalion Chief, functions in the clinical capacity of an advanced life support paramedic providing emergency and non-emergency care or other specialty EMS services in the field. This position requires responding as a single Paramedic resource to emergency calls and as needed to non-emergency calls; managing and directing on-scene patient care.

Education/Experience:

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • An associates or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in EMS, public health, management, or a closely related field preferred, but not required; and
  • State of Colorado Paramedic certification with 5 years of paramedic field experience. Possession of current AHA ACLS, and CPR-health care provider Possession of valid driver’s license, with a good driving record.

Salary range: $66,000 - $120,000
